Burger Bowl & Sweet Potato Fries

Hello & happy Monday! This week is another recipe…actually a surprise recipe: Burger Bowl & Sweet Potato Fries! Coming in a few days late since I was out of town, but still just as delicious.

Last week I talked about a possible risotto and maybe a lifestyle post but…then I was doing some research on foods and trending foods and the same word kept coming up: bowl. Smoothie bowls, Buddha bowls, Nourish bowls, bowls bowls bowls! I held onto that, maybe I would do a smoothie bowl series or something so I bookmarked a few things. Then I was ordering groceries (see multiple past posts, I do not like grocery shopping) and all the good things were on special: sweet potatoes, chicken mince, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes….burgers.

I shop off the specials: whatever is a few dollars off or whatever is worth more per kg. etc., that’s what I look for. It was pure coincidence that when I ordered everything it came out to this recipe, but here we are!

I love a good chicken burger, but I’m trying to eat healthier. Then let’s go back to all the bowl searches I did earlier...burger bowl. Perfect. When I did a quick search to see what a burger bowl looked like, I found salads 🤢 I didn’t want a salad. I wanted a burger. So here’s my non-salad version of a burger bowl

Ingredients for Burger Bowl

  • 1 kg. Chicken Mince
  • 1/2 tsp. Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp. Mixed Herbs
  • 1/2 tsp. Garlic Mince
  • 1/2 tsp. Onion Powder
  • 1/2 White Onion, Chopped
  • 1/4 c. Spinach, Chopped
  • Salt/Pepper

Ingredients for Sweet Potato Fries:

  • 4-5 Medium Sweet Potatoes, Sliced
  • 1/2 tsp. Mixed Herbs
  • 1 tsp. Baking Soda**
  • 1/4 tsp. Onion Powder
  • 1/2 tsp. Garlic Mince
  • 1/4 c. Parmesan, Grated

**Baking soda is a little trick I learned from Tik Tok, it adds crunch and makes everything stick together. I add it to all roast potatoes, no matter how I cook them

The best things about this recipe is the room for extra zest:

  • Add some sautéd mushrooms
  • Add pickles (I hate pickles so)
  • I don’t really eat red meat, hence the chicken mince; but, you could substitute red meat for the chicken
  • Add bacon
  • Add pineapple + bbq sauce for a Hawaiian bowl
  • Substitute sweet potato for regular potatoes
  • Grill for some nice smokey flavour

TIP: Make sure you cook both of these things together. This meal should only take about 30 minutes to make!

This is one of my new favourite recipes to make: it’s easy, it’s healthy, and it satisfies that craving for a burger when I really want one. It reminds me of a nice summer in California or near the water in Sydney (or wherever you spend your summers). Since it’s raining outside right now, I think the desire for warmer weather and a nice bbq sounds nice…

I have another TWO posts coming this week. Wednesday is a BONUS BLOG. It’s a long one, it’s a personal one, and it’s a GOOD one. Then Saturday a recipe as per schedule.

Don’t forget your special burger sauce!!

I’m also sending out my August newsletter by the end of the week, so make sure you are subscribed! July was an interesting month, it felt forever long!! But I also can’t believe it’s almost August. That means I only have about 5 months left on my Visa…crazy how quickly this year has just flown by!!

Can’t wait for the next one 😊
